Horticultural Therapy Internships

InternsThe Horticultural Therapy internship is for those students seeking their designation in the Horticultural Therapy discipline. Horticultural Therapy has a strong focus on the humanities and community rehabilitation type work, combining these with growing and working with plants. This involves having a supervisor able to guide the intern through the internship and to sign off on the experience (some of which is project based). This experience is very people oriented and follows the 5 day per week program hours (9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) here at the Farm.

In the interest of creating some stability for the people we work with, we ask for a minimum internship of 6 weeks, with the option of extending to a total of a 3 month. We have modest onsite  accommodations (depending on availability) and can offer interns the Farm’s hot lunch program, free of charge, from Mondya through Friday.  Other meals would be the responsibility of the intern and can be prepared in the Farm’s community kithcen.

Providence Farm is pleased to offer and supervise this type of internship, the hours from which can be applied under the Canadian Horticultural Therapy program. It is the responsibility of the intern to ensure the experience can be coutned toward an internship that is recognized by the Canadian Horticultural Therapy Association. Please see www.chta.ca for further details.

To express interest or learn of current opportunities, please email provfarm@providence.bc.ca and include ”Horticultural Therapy Internship” in the subject line. Thanks.

In Canada, there are several related Horticulture Therapy Programs/workshops that can be applied towards Voluntary Professional Registration. Voluntary registration packages are available through the CHTA.
