This year, the Farm celebrated 35 years of service to community. From humble beginnings to a diverse offering of therapeutic programs, and now providing over 9,000 program spaces annually, the Farm is tightly woven into the social fabric of the Cowichan Valley and is proud to be so.
As a way to commemorate the year, Farm volunteers produced a short video titled “All You Need is Gloves” (which is best enjoyed when humming the tune from The Beatles’ 1967 hit “All You Need is Love”). This idea seemed to fit us so perfectly – we provide a loving, caring and accepting environment for all, while donning gloves and working hard to care for the beautiful 400 acre farm gifted us by the Sisters of St. Ann. Because we had so much fun compiling pictures and video clips of Farm staff, participants, volunteers, and partners wearing gloves, we wanted to share them with you in our Annual Giving Campaign brochure.
As we reflect on our 35th anniversary and look ahead to our 36th year of service to community, we are excited. We had a couple of retirements last year, but have brought on some terrific new staff with new experiences and ideas. Our therapeutic programming has taken some new and interesting paths incorporating wet felting, yoga, more access to gardening for those who are less ambulatory and the expansion of the line of wood working products made by program participants. Our Small Engine Repair program has broadened to be a Farm Fix-It Shop and our Clothing Outreach Program now engages participants in the organizing and “selling” of used clothes. We are serving more in community than ever before and are proud to be doing so.
As with any registered charity, the path to delivering meaningful programming starts with the support and generosity of people like you. You attend our fundraising events, purchase our Farm-grown produce and eggs at Farmers’ Markets, shop in our General Store for great Farm treasurers and – most importantly – believe that our work and the individuals we serve are important. I ask for your support during this Annual Giving Campaign so that we can continue to provide opportunities for individuals with mental and physical challenges to learn, love, laugh and, most importantly, belong. Every little bit helps.
From the bottom of our hearts – thank you.
With love, and gloves,
